Marmaris is the favourite beach resort destination in Turkey for UK families couples, groups and singles as quite simply it offers ......everything! The weather is superb in Marmaris from May to October so that a suntan is virtually guaranteed and even in March, April and November there is often day after day of glorious sunshine.
The stunning setting of its geography, remarkably similar to that of the fjords, with pine-clad hills dropping steeply to the sea, jagged inlets and tiny rocky islets off the coast. There is a wide choice of accommodation, from five star All Inclusive Hotels to great value self-catering apartments and more or less, everything in-between. Alot of accommodation is on the sea-front or on the main road that runs parallel. But don't forget the Armutalan area which is between 1km and 2km from the beach. Often prices can be much cheaper in the areas away from the beach and some of the new 5 Hotels have beautiful gardens that border with greener/forrest areas.
The sea-front walk-way of Marmaris starts at the Netsel Marina (Marmaris's newest Marina) and carries on along the main marina of Marmaris. Behind the main Marina is the town centre of Marmaris, Bazaar, Castle and the famous Bar Street! Further along the walk-way comes 7km of sandy beach and the beach front areas of hotels, bars, restaurants. Everyone can choose their own spot on the beach front with many of the sunbed & umbrellas available free of charge. There are plenty of water-sports centres along the beach so the energetic can be active all day long. There is an Aqua Park on the sea-front and another in Armutalan.
Towards the far end of the Marmaris sea-front brings the greener areas and some of the large 5 Star Hotels that border the walk-way. Carrying on further along the beach front walk-way will lead you to the resort of Icmeler and the little marina at the far end of this smaller and more compact resort. Don't worry about having to walk the 10km back again as there is a frequent water taxi service that will drop off at various points along Marmaris Beach before ending up back at Marmaris Marina!
With so much to see and do in Marmaris it would be easy to never leave the resort! But, take the time to climb off that sun-bed and explore some of the beauty of the Datca peninsular and beyond. A day trip to Rhodes by hydrofoil, the natural beauty of Dalyan or the history of Ephesus are all within reach. At night time, the sea-front area has lively parts and quieter areas to suit all tastes. Then there is the centre of Marmaris itself with the two marinas and their many restaurants., the bazaar for shopping and of course the famous Bar Street. It is 'exactly what it says on the tin' i.e. a street full of bars and nightclubs that has locals and visitors from all over Europe partying until the break of dawn.
