Son Parc is a small resort on the north coast of Menorca approximately 20kms west of Mahon and 7kms east of Fornells. The journey from the airport takes about 20 minutes.
Son Parc has two main attractions – one is the golf course (the only one on Menorca). The greens are well set out and although I’m no expert, it doesn’t look too challenging. There is a driving range as well, so everyone can have a go. A development of apartments are currently being built to the south of the course and it would seem by the plans that the estate will grow quite quickly and be the main feature of the area.
Son Parc's other attraction is the beach which is perfect for families and sun seekers alike. There are three access points, one by road (turn left at the roundabout just after the golf course) the car park is large enough even when the beach is busy. There is a central path from behind the Sol Parc Hotel and although its quite a walk, this path is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs. The third path leads down from the road adjacent to the Beach Club Apartments, this path is quite steep and the last step is a drop of about 3 feet.
The beach is patrolled by lifeguards, has sun beds and parasols, pedalos and canoes for hire. At the western end there is a beach side cafe, at this end of the beach the sand drops away quite quickly. However, the eastern part (nearest the resort) the sand shelves very gently and it is possible to walk out for a few hundred yard before it gets deep. The sand is a bit too soft to build sand castles away from the shoreline however, the beach has thousands of shells of all sizes. Oh and because of the geological makeup of this part of the island some of the sand is pink. Because of its northerly aspect, the prevailing wind, the Tramuntana, can spoil an otherwise perfect setting. When this wind gets up, jellyfish, along with some debris, can get blown in, so please take care.
