The resort of Cala Mayor is on the south coast of Majorca and is the first resort you come across from leaving the capital Palma in a westerly direction. Before you get to the resort you will pass the King and Queens of Spain’s summer palace of Marivent , where Charles and Diana once stayed as the guests of the King. A little further on you will come across the Five star luxury hotel and resort the Nixe Palace. Back in the 1980s Cala Mayor was a boom town packed with visitors and with some of the liveliest bars and clubs on the coast. However, the resort suffered a severe a decline when all the younger tourists started to visit the at the time new resort of Magaluf. Today Cala Mayor has a great offering of Hotels to suit all pockets as well as some class restaurants, shops, bars and cafes.
The rest of the town has a range of services for locals and tourists alike. One outstanding little restaurant is Shu-Bi-Dua next to Scots Corner on the road opposite the taxi rank. This place has been serving up the best stroganoff on the planet since the mid eighties and all his other dishes are excellent. If you're in the area don't miss it.
