Santa Susanna on the Costa Brava is an attractive town lying in front of the lowland hills of the Montnegre Mountains. Built on a gradient rising from the sea, the village is dominated by a pretty white church sitting on top of the hill.
Santa Susanna attracts a wide range of holidaymakers and is particularly popular with families looking for a seaside holiday in child-friendly surroundings. Couples seeking a relaxing break in the sun will find many little hideaways in the area.
The beach of golden sand is two kilometres long and shelves fairly steeply into the sea so the water becomes deep quite quickly. A promenade, shaded by palms runs from Santa Susana to Malgrat de Mar. There are many shops, bars and restaurants along its length offering day long refreshments. Water sports activities include pedal boats, water skiing, and scuba diving.
Europe’s largest water park is found at Lloret de Mar, only fourteen kilometres to the north east, and is a great favourite with both adults and children alike. The kamikaze water slide is not for the faint of heart. Attractions such as a children’s zoo and a marine land park are also found in the area. The Activa Natura is in the woods just outside the town and offers outward bound type courses for children, teens and adults.
Santa Susanna has many bars and pubs some of which have live music. There are a couple of night clubs where dancing continues until the early hours of the morning but, on the whole, Santa Susana goes to sleep around two in the morning. There are a whole variety of culinary experiences in the many restaurants, for those who wish for a quiet meal for two.
Santa Susanna has restaurants to suit all tastes. Less adventurous palates with find many places serving typically British food and Italian restaurants serving pizzas. The old town is the place to go to savour traditional Spanish foods with their fish restaurants being particularly good. Local wines are tasty and inexpensive.
