Located in the south west of Slovakia, with Hungary to the south and Austria to the west, Bratislava offers guests a combination of gothic splendour and a lively nightlife. Offering a less commercialized city break option to the likes of Prague and Budapest, Bratislava still maintains much of its charm and quaintness before Slovakian independence in the 1990s, with the likes of the old town and the castle popular attractions.
The old town is packed with museums (such as the Municipal Museum which comes complete with torture chambers and the Museum of Wine Production) and palaces (Primate's Palace and the Mirbach Palace). The castle, built above the Danube, was a frontier post of the Roman Empire from the 1st to the 5th century. Bratislava is served by its own airport which can be found 15km from the centre, while flights to Vienna in Austria are also an option and is approximately 80km from Bratislava.
