El Cotillo located on the North East coast of Fuerteventura was always a small fishing village, in fact today it still is, and the few restaurants in the village serve the local catches, always served with local potatoes, (Papas Arrugadas) and spicy sauce. The old harbour is only a short walk to the north over the headland that separates the two main beaches.. There are several bars and restaurants close to the old harbour and the views from El Toston are pretty amazing.
There are literally miles of beaches in El Cotillo and for those that are daring, you can easily make sure you get an all over tan, as during the week you can hardly bump into a soul! The beaches are excellent, and even on a busy day they are too big to be overcrowded.
The El Cotillo tower where you can find tourist information and great views of the harbour. Even though the tower was built as a defence against English pirates, some of the information leaflets are in English!
A couple of miles to the north of El Cotillo there is a lighthouse, and a pleasant afternoon can be spent wandering there and back. Staying in El Cotillo allows you really to get away from it all - El Cotillo is blessed with beaches and exists for those who adore them !
Happy Holidays in El Cotillo !
